RACING GAMES
Every adage has its exception, and one certainly exists for the adage above. Racing computer games are notable for their adherents that come from the professional ranks of the sport itself. Lewis Hamilton, who missed claiming the Formula One champion's mantle in his first year by the slimmest of margins, has been quoted many times as saying that he hones his racing skills by playing racing computer games against fellow racers.Racing sims are quite hands-on from a driving and design perspective. Adjustments can be made to things like track shape and condition. Car physics can be altered and experimented with thanks to some pretty fancy electronics wizardry. Sounds are a big factor, and developers strive to make these as realistic as possible.
Major games makers include EA Sports, Microsoft, and Vivendi Universal. They produce offerings that portray all sorts of different racing, from dirt track to drag racing, Formula One to motocross. Games makers have shown their willingness to listen to what fans like and don't like. EA, for example, recently received kudos for beefing up the sound quality of its F1 offering to what seems to be a very realistic standard.
Some games are available on the internet as free downloads, although the format can tend to require some imagination, as they may tend to be virtually graphics-free. That notwithstanding, the degree of involvement one can achieve from sim racing computer games can be quite extensive.
